To take down South Boston's Irish mob, the police send in Billy Costigan to infiltrate the organization run by Frank Costello, while Colin Sullivan, a mole in the police department, works for the mob. When it becomes clear the department has a spy, and the syndicate has one as well, both sides scramble to root out the traitor before they're exposed.
